Measuring OOH: The Metrics That Actually Matter in 2026
Out-of-home used to be bought on faith and a traffic count. That has changed. Between mobile location data, digital screen playout logs and brand-lift studies, an OOH campaign can now be measured with the same discipline as a digital one.
Reach and frequency remain the foundation: how many people in the target audience passed the sites, and how often. Modern audience data models that from real movement patterns rather than road counts, which makes the numbers far more useful.
Beyond exposure, look at behaviour. Footfall uplift at stores near the sites, search and website spikes during the flight, and app installs geo-fenced to the campaign area all show whether the media moved people, not just whether it was seen.
The most important step is agreeing the measure before the campaign starts. A launch, a retail promotion and a brand campaign should each be judged on a different outcome, and the media plan should be built to move that number.
